Step-by-step arrangement
Step 1 — Prep your workspace
Clear a clean table, keep a bucket of fresh water nearby. Line the basket interior with a plastic liner if it isn’t waterproof to protect the basket.
Step 2 — Soak and place the floral foam
Soak foam fully (do not push foam under water — let it sink). Trim foam to fit basket snugly. Place foam into basket and secure with floral tape or florist pins.
Step 3 — Condition the roses
Remove excess leaves from stems, especially those that will end up below the foam surface. Recut stems at a 45° angle under water and strip any bruised petals. Let roses hydrate 15–30 min.
Step 4 — Create a greenery base
Insert foliage around the outer rim of the foam to create a green collar. This hides the foam and provides a visual frame.
Step 5 — Place the focal roses
Start with the center/top focal point: insert the first rose slightly off-center if you prefer an asymmetric design. Then add roses in a circular pattern radiating outwards. Keep the heads at a similar height for a compact dome look — or vary heights slightly for a looser style.
Tip: Place stems at a slight outward angle so the arrangement reads full from the front.
Step 6 — Add filler flowers
Fill gaps with baby’s breath (Gypsophila) for a soft, airy look. Cut filler stems shorter and insert them evenly to balance the yellow roses.
Step 7 — Final leaf finishing
Tuck larger leaves (aspidistra or salal) around the base and between roses to create a clean green border. Add a ribbon bow on the handle if desired.
Step 8 — Mist & care
Lightly mist the arrangement and keep the foam moist. Do not soak the basket. Keep the arrangement out of direct sunlight and away from heat.
Care & longevity tips
Check foam daily; press and add water so foam stays moist.
Recut stems and refresh water if using a vase-style method.
Keep arrangement in a cool spot; avoid direct sun and ripening fruit (ethylene shortens life).
Use floral preservative in water if possible.
Common mistakes & fixes
Foam too dry: arrangement wilts — rehydrate foam completely.
Roses placed too deep: shorten stems to bring heads back to desired height.
Crowded look: remove 1–2 stems and spread roses to breathe.
